Hedi Mayr-Hassler
Make-Up Artist
How did you get into film? What particularly attracted you to become part of this industry?
I got into film because my grandmother inspired me. She was a innkeeper and made up the actors‘ make-up for plays on the side. I was fascinated by how her hands could make an actor look so different. I was always a film enthusiast and watched all the old classic films on TV with Grandma. My greatest wish was to be allowed to work on the set of a film one day.
I never lost sight of my goal and when I had saved up the money, I went to Hollywood/Los Angeles to train in film make-up and special effects. The training in America gave me the opportunity to work on the set of film productions and to immediately apply the knowledge I had acquired on the set. I gained a lot of experience through the international scene in Los Angeles, which is still useful to me today.
Back in Europe, I was able to work in Frankfurt a. Main for the series ‚Die Kommissarin‘ with Hannelore Elsner and Til Schwaiger. That was the beginning of my profession as a make-up artist.
What distinguishes Tirol as film region for you?
A milestone in Tyrolean film history is the British-German co-production ‚The Mountain Eagle‘ from 1925 with director Alfred Hitchcock. He became aware of Tirol at the time through a postcard!
In Tirol we have great, diverse and easily accessible filming locations in the alpine and high alpine environment, we have glaciers, mountain lakes, forests, moors, but also impressive examples of traditional and modern architecture from mountain farms to castles, churches and chapels, to chalets and cable car stations.
Tirol is a very hospitable and lovable country, which is why guests from all over the world love to come to us.
We are curious: Tell us your favourite location in Tirol!
There are many beautiful places in Tirol.
I love the unspoilt, authentic places like those in the Villgratental and Lesachtal valleys in East Tirol. Here, customs are still really lived!
And now: The stage is yours! Please introduce yourself and your field of activity.
