Kufsteinerland goes GREEN
The tourist destination of Kufsteinerland has been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. After Seefeld, Kufsteinerland is now the second Tyrolean destination to receive this important sustainability certification.
‘I would like to thank everyone involved for making this milestone possible for our living space. Kufsteinerland is not only one of the pioneers in Tyrol, but also in Austria – this is only the fifth time that the eco-label has ever been awarded to a destination,’ says TVB Chairman Georg Hörhager. The certificate is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK). An official award date has not yet been set.
Kufsteinerland – the municipalities of Ebbs, Erl, Bad Häring, Langkampfen, Niederndorf, Niederndorferberg, Schwoich, Thiersee and the town of Kufstein – can now call itself a holder of the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. The eco-label identifies Kufsteinerland as a leading sustainable tourism region in Austria.
The award is a milestone
Theresa Gorbach, Sustainability Coordinator at TVB Kufsteinerland since 2023: ‘The association has been actively committed to sustainability for more than three years. This award marks an important milestone and at the same time the starting signal for our future path, because sustainable development is a continuous process. The fact that we are among the pioneers in Austria has great appeal.’
‘The fact that people, organisations, companies, political players and all municipalities in Kufsteinerland are united in assuming their ecological and social responsibility for the preservation of an intact environment and the sustainable development of the region is a strong message – to our guests, our society and future generations, says Sabine Mair, Managing Director of TVB Kufsteinerland, proudly. ‘My thanks go to all those who have worked so hard over many years to achieve this certification and who continue to walk this path with us.’
The TVB Kufsteinerland is now officially authorised to carry the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. The certification is valid for four years, but the date for the official award ceremony has not yet been set.

About the Kufsteinerland
Kufsteinerland, with its 8 villages of Ebbs, Erl, Bad Häring, Langkampfen, Niederndorf, Niederndorferberg, Schwoich, Thiersee and the town of Kufstein, is home to around 44,000 people and a vibrant business and university centre. It combines creativity and innovation with living Tyrolean traditions and international high culture in the Erl Festival Theatre. The mighty fortress overlooking the medieval town of Kufstein, the majestic Kaiser Mountains and the gentle alpine pastures on the high plateaus around Lake Thiersee and Bad Häring are a characterising backdrop and a place of strength for locals, employees, students and guests alike. In this environment, Kufsteinerland stands for active experiences between working life and everyday life, which can be filled with a unique mixture of tradition and modernity, nature and wellness, culture and sport as well as traditional and international cuisine in the cycle of the seasons. At the same time, Kufsteinerland offers plenty of space for relaxation and tranquillity.
